Case Study: Reinke Software Engineering
CODEBASE
Use cases at RSWE |
 |
| PROJECT
OVERVIEW |
One RSWE project
required an offline database application running on 80286 handheld devices.
The legacy system input was generated as ASCII batch files sent to a Windows
NT host. This host has to convert the batch input in a suitable database
format and to transfer it to the handheld devices. The modified results
had to be converted vice versa.
Another demanding database
application is a cryptographic cluster server, where multiple nodes have
to access a nearly realtime database. In case of failure the database engine
continues it’s work on a failoverserver immediately.

|
| WHY
WE USE(D) CODEBASE |
|
In the first case
a multiplatform DBMS was required to cover the database requirements under
DOS and Windows NT. On the handheld devices low memory consumption was
a essential requirement, too. All goals were covered using Codebase. The
query speed on the slow handheld PCs is blazing. Writing the ASCII to database
converters has been supported very well by the Codebase API.
The second project has demanding
requirements concerning a ultra stable and performant database server.
