Sequiter ® announces support for Microsoft’s OLE DB standard.
EDMONTON, ALBERTA – March 24, 1997 - Ken Sawyer, President of Sequiter Software Inc., announced today that Sequiter will be developing a highly optimized OLE DB data provider based on the award-winning CodeBase database engine. OLE DB is a new database standard from Microsoft, which will offer developers the following advantages:
- Ability to use a wide variety of front-ends with the high-performance CodeBase engine.
CodeBase with OLE DB will allow developers to optimize database performance while exposing a wide variety of front-end tools for database development. This list includes traditional compilers and their components, e-mail and spreadsheet applications, CASE tools, Web servers, etc. This scenario will offer developers the best of both worlds: fast development time, flexibility in choice of tools, and optimal database functionality.
- An affordable SQL client/server solution.
Current SQL databases are expensive to purchase and maintain, and carry large user licensing fees. The CodeBase OLE DB engine, in conjunction with an OLE DB Query Processor component will allow corporations to develop client/server applications with SQL technology that are affordable to develop and distribute. The CodeBase server will offer unlimited client connections, allowing smaller companies to move into the area of client/server development.
- A standard method of accessing corporate data.
This includes the ability to access other non-xBASE data stores, regardless of storage format or location. This capability extends across corporate data as well as Internet data, and across all types of data providers. Companies will now be able to integrate all their different databases using one unified database API.
Sawyer added, "Our support of OLE DB will allow developers to plug in a high-speed data solution while still allowing them to use their favorite compiler tools and other database front-ends in the development process. In addition, with our unlimited-seat client/server licensing, we expect developers to use our OLE DB engine in combination with an OLE DB Query Provider to create affordable client/server SQL solutions."
Support for OLE DB will be available in a future version of CodeBase.
